Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis meets with the European Commission's Vice-President, discusses a more effective EU migration policy
On 4 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the European Commission's Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas. The meeting focused on irregular migration and EU security issues.
“We appreciate the European Commission’s political and technical support for Lithuania to help address the challenges linked to the increase in irregular migration flows into the EU from Belarus. The aggressive actions of Lukashenko's regime aimed at exerting pressure on the EU as a whole must receive a proper response. This example illustrates the need for a rapid agreement at the EU level on safeguards to cope with similar hybrid attacks, to effectively protect the EU’s external borders, to prevent irregular migrants from crossing its borders and to prevent them from abusing a common European asylum system", said Landsbergis.
The meeting also discussed other measures aimed at helping the EU member states facing irregular migration linked to undemocratic regimes.
